Our Story

The journey of the Kusaas Diaspora Union (KUDU) is a testament to the collective aspiration of the Kusaas people to unite, preserve their culture, and amplify their global voice. Conceptualized in late 2024 in response to increasing calls for collaboration among Kusaas associations and individuals across the USA, UK, Norway, Italy, and the Republic of Ireland, KUDU has evolved methodically through a series of milestones rooted in dialogue, inclusivity, and strategic vision.

The first step was the establishment of a Core Team to steer the foundational process. Through regular meetings between October and December 2024, the team defined the Union’s vision, values, and priorities. Task groups were formed to focus on critical areas like governance, welfare, cultural preservation, and peacebuilding. Simultaneously, efforts were made to draft a Constitution and a Governance and Operational Framework. These documents laid the foundation for KUDU’s membership structure, leadership roles, and decision-making processes, with an emphasis on inclusivity and transparency.

By December 2024, an Interim Leadership Team and an Advisory Board were selected to guide the transition towards operationalization. Bringing together a diverse group of elder statespersons, scholars, and professionals, this leadership structure ensured robust strategic oversight. KUDU was officially launched in January 2025 with the unanimous adoption of its Constitution, marking its formal establishment as a global umbrella body for the Kusaas diaspora. Shortly after, committee heads were appointed to oversee thematic areas such as culture, youth, welfare, and economic development.

Through these foundational achievements, KUDU has emerged as a vibrant platform, uniting the Kusaas people and their shared identity. It stands as a bold testament to the power of collective purpose, bridging continents and generations to inspire progress and cohesion.
